This is the shodai or first generation takeda Noriyuki.  This is a very large and strong katana that is very well made and is obviously made to be used.  The mounts reflect the owners taste and it is apparent that the owned appreciated a traditional samurai style of a true swordsmen.  The mounts are not flashy but are all iron and not made of soft metals.  The handle is long to help the balance of this sword that is almost 30" long.  The hamon is in a very elegant suguha style and like the mounts its is not flashy but is however well made and sound.  The hada is very rich looking and extremely tightly forged.  Takeda swords were famous and well known to be of very good quality and also for there ability to cut well and hold a good edge.  This is a very good quality, long samurai sword made for a true swordsmen.   The saya/scabbard has been restored and is in good condition now.  The handle shows very good age and even the same/ray skin has shrunk some what from age.  The handle still also has its origin tsukamaki/wrapping that is very desirable.  please note that these are the original mounts for the sword but the blade should be stored in its shirasaya as the koshirai have a tsunagi/wooden blade for displaying the mounts.  The sword comes with papers attesting to the signature ,age and quality.  This is a unique collectable samurai sword that comes mounted and with papers and dates back to the 1600's.
