This is a fine example of an exquisite gendaito from the highly rated OTA CHIKAHIDE. Chikahide is listed in the Toko Taikan and is from Shizuoka province. A fine sword from him was valued at 1 million Yen when the book was made. Putting this aside this sword is loaded with fine work. The hamon is extremely active with an abundance of hataraki/activity in the nioi-guchi and within the hamon itself. You can see running masame in the hamon throughout, truly a fine work of art. The hada is strong and well forged and has a milky color. It is also a long sword at over 27 inches and has an elegant curvature and balance. Please note the hamon in the boshi. It has a very active and well tempered hamon in the boshi. Overall this sword expresses beauty, elegance and fine quality. The mounts are in very good condition also and are type 97 Naval Kai-Gunto (very collectable mounts). The saya is polished ray skin over wood and is in excellent shape. The tsuka/handle has a little of the wrap frayed but other than that the overall mounts are excellent. The original tassel comes with this koshirai and a surrender tag from WWII. It is in shirasaya to preserve and protect the valuable high quality polish and the sword. This would be a top notch katana for any collection, especially for a collector of fine WWII swords that are hand made.
